Quiet Time at National Parks

“Quiet season” is beginning at the nation’s national parks. During winter months at places like Zion, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks, visitation decreases dramatically over summer-season numbers, and lodges offer a variety of bargains for visitors who prefer the cooler temperatures and fewer visitors.

In Yellowstone National Park, the winter season begins Dec. 20, with the opening of the Old Faithful Snow Lodge followed by the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel’s opening Dec. 22.

The South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park drops room rates by as much as 31 percent over summertime rates. Room rates at the park’s two off-rim lodges, Maswik and Yavapai Lodges, range from $76 to $89 plus tax.

Late autumn is a good time for bargain-hunters to visit Zion National Park in Southern Utah. Guests staying two consecutive nights at the Zion Lodge from Nov. 1-20, will receive a 50 percent discount on the second night. Rates at the Zion Lodge start at $140.50 for a standard room with two people.
